Attitudes to Success
Attitudes to Success.
For each of us, how successful we feel will depend upon our attitude
toward success. Similarly, our motivation to achieve will be determined
largely by our attitude. Equally the amount of success we achieve and
the amount of success we do not achieve, will be determined in large
parts by our attitude to success.
Our attitude to success is part of our Success Intelligence.
Recognising our attitudes and changing them can often be a way of
achieving greater success. Recognising and understanding our attitudes
toward success is a way of improving our Success Intelligence. It is
also a way of helping to overcome some of the 'blocks' that inhibit our
path to success.
Your Attitude to Success
You selected;
Success only comes through effort and hard work. If I am not achieving
success it is because I am not putting in enough effort. More effort
should bring more success. If my efforts are not working then I need
to try even harder.
This suggests that you believe that success is the result
of hard work and effort. In order to achieve more success, you need to be more
hard working and put in more effort. If you are not successful or not successful
enough then it is a sign that you have not been working hard enough.
Your response to a lack of progress or a lack of success
is to put more and more effort into it. Even though, your efforts may be
producing less and less return, you believe that putting in more effort is the
only answer.
The problem could be though, that you are simply working
too hard. Possibly you have become 'blinded' to other possibilities or other
approaches. All your efforts are directed in one direction and you fail to see
alternatives, especially if those alternatives seem easier!
It may seem true to you that success is, as the old saying
goes, " 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration". However, by putting
in more and more effort, you could well be producing more than 99% perspiration
when what you need is more inspiration.

I first came across the concept of Success
Intelligence in the book of the same name by Robert Holden.
This is an easy to read book that outlines his
concept of Success Intelligence and its various aspects.
If you are interested in this area or in success
generally, then I can recommend you to read this book.
